A tragic railway accident in the southern state of Oaxaca has claimed the lives of at least 13 people, an incident expected to reignite critical opposition regarding the rapidity and management of the country's major public works projects.
The accident happened on the Interoceanic Train, a line developed to connect the Atlantic and Pacific across the thinnest stretch of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. “We will meticulously determine the cause of this tragedy,” declared the country's president.
